Prep & Aftercare
-
24–48 Hours Before
Exfoliate using an exfoliating mitt, focusing on elbows, knees, ankles + underarms.
Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid razors with moisture strips.
Moisturize after your exfoliation shower - also moisturize daily in the week leading up to your tan to keep skin hydrated.
Schedule beauty services including waxing, nails, facials, massages, etc. at least one day before your appointment.
Avoid bar soaps and products like Dove or Olay, which can leave residue on the skin.
Day of Your Tan
Do not apply lotion, deodorant, makeup, perfume, or body oils.
Avoid showering within 4 hours of your appointment. If needed, rinse with cool water only and no products.
Arrive with completely clean skin.
Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and avoid tight fabrics that may rub the skin - we recommend long sleeved & pants. Slides are the best footwear choice!
If it’s raining, bring an umbrella, rain jacket & closed-toe shoes like Uggs or clogs to protect your tan.
-
During Your Processing Time
Wait the full recommended time before rinsing - your artist will let you know exactly when to rinse.
Stay completely dry while your tan develops - avoid sweating, exercising, doing dishes, excessive hand washing, rain/moisture & doggy kisses (yes, this is legit!)
Wear long sleeves and pants, especially if sleeping in your tan overnight.
Avoid applying any products to the skin.
First Rinse
Rinse with lukewarm water only during your first rinse - no soap, shaving, or hair washing.
Use your hands to gently rinse away the cosmetic bronzer in the shower.
You will see a lot of bronzer from the tan come off in the shower - this is completely normal, and your tan will continue to develop over the next 24 hours.
If you chose a rapid rinse, you may see very limited color initially - this is also normal. Rapid formulas = rapid rinse, not rapid development. Your full color will develop within 24 hours.
Continue to rinse in the shower until the water runs clear. If you notice leftover bronzer causing streaking in any areas, get back in the shower and rinse again.
Pat skin dry gently with a towel - do not rub.
Wait 24 hours after your tan to apply any lotions.
-
24 Hours After Initial Rinse
You may take a shower using tan-safe products - we recommend gel based body washes and gentle face cleansers. You may see some bronzer come off in the shower again - this is totally normal and expected.
Begin moisturizing twice daily with a tan-safe lotion. This is crucial to your tan’s lifespan.
Avoid products containing mineral oil or heavy fragrance. We recommend lotions with shea or cocoa butter.
Wait 24 hours before working out. When possible, wear looser clothing and blot sweat gently. You may also add some baby powder in high-friction areas to avoid any rubbing.
To Extend the Life of Your Tan
Avoid long hot showers, pools, hot tubs, loofahs, bar soaps, and aerosol sunscreens.
If you are swimming in chlorine or salt water, rinse off afterward and moisturize.
Stay hydrated - drinking lots of water helps your tan fade more evenly.
After 3 or so days, you may use a DHA-infused tan extender to maintain your tan.
Always wear sunscreen. Spray tans do not protect against UV exposure. We recommend oil-free sunscreens like Bask or Sun Bum! Tip: apply sunscreen before swimming to act as a barrier to protect your skin & tan!
